Frequently Asked Questions

GOLD CREEK RANCH

WHAT KIND OF TEMPERAMENT DOES A BORDER COLLIE HAVE?

Border Collies are bred to work long and hard in all sorts of weather. They are high-energy dogs, intense and reactive to movement. Border Collies are widely thought to be the most intelligent breed of dog. In addition to their remarkable ability to learn, they have an equally impressive level of energy. They need attention and training to make sure their intelligence and energy are directed into constructive channels, not destructive ones.

HOW LONG TO BORDER COLLIES LIVE?

The average lifespan of the Border Collie is 12 years, with some dogs living to be more than 17 years old. This lifespan is much higher than most dogs of similar size.

ARE YOUR BORDER COLLIES REGISTERED WITH THE AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB?

No, we do not register our Border Collies with the AKC (a show/sport registry). Our Border Collies are registered with the American Border Collie Association (ABCA). This registry promotes and fosters the breeding, training and distribution of reliable working Border Collies, and promotes stock dog trials and exhibitions.

ARE YOUR BORDER COLLIES GOOD PROSPECTS FOR AGILITY?

ABSOLUTELY! In fact, our dogs are siblings/close relatives to dogs that compete at the highest levels of agility competition and who have acquired some of the most esteemed agility titles. Agility offers a fantastic alternative to (or can be a great compliment to) herding - allowing the Border Collie to refocus their energy to the conquest of obstacles.

DO YOU SHIP YOUR PUPPIES?

Yes, we ship our puppies. Gold Creek Border Collies reside across the United States, we have even shipped internationally to Canada and Puerto Rico. Please note that FAA rules do not allow puppies to be shipped before eight weeks of age. For the puppy's safety and well-being during travel, there are limitations regarding the temperature at both the departure and arrival destinations.
