Our Commitment Doesn't End When You Take Your Puppy Home
At Gold Creek Ranch Border Collies, our commitment to every puppy extends far beyond the day they leave for their new home. We believe that producing exceptional Border Collies is only half of our responsibility. The other half is helping every puppy owner understand how to nurture that puppy into the confident, thoughtful, and well-balanced adult dog they were bred to become.
For that reason, we strongly require every family receiving one of our puppies to commit to learning about puppy development and canine communication before bringing their puppy home.
Puppies grow physically, mentally, and emotionally at an astonishing rate. Their development changes from week to week, and understanding how puppies communicate during these critical stages is one of the greatest gifts you can give your new companion.
Our Puppy Development Program
Beginning at just three days of age, we start Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and carefully introduce age-appropriate activities designed to develop:

Border Collies are extraordinarily intelligent from the day they are born. By the time your puppy comes home at eight weeks of age, we have already laid an important foundation.
Your role is to continue building on that foundation.
Our Puppy Development Program is designed around simple, enjoyable games that take only 3–5 minutes at a time. These short sessions become the building blocks for a lifetime of communication, trust, and partnership between you and your dog.
Training Is Part of Our Program
One of the requirements of purchasing a puppy from Gold Creek Ranch Border Collies is participation in our 2–3 month Puppy Development Program with professional trainer Kim Moore.
This is not simply a class we recommend. It is a requirement of our breeding program.
Training is completed remotely through phone calls and live FaceTime sessions, making it easy to participate no matter where you live.
Initially, you'll spend approximately 15 minutes, two to three times each day working with your puppy. As your puppy matures, Kim will guide you on how to safely increase both the length and complexity of each session.
Every puppy develops at a different pace. Just as important as doing enough is not doing too much. Border Collies need thoughtful mental engagement far more than excessive physical exercise during puppyhood.
Because puppies' growth plates have not yet closed, activities involving excessive running, repetitive jumping, or strenuous exercise can permanently damage developing joints.
Protecting those joints now helps ensure a lifetime of soundness.
Learning to Speak "Puppy"
One of the most valuable resources we recommend is the book: Control Unleashed: The Puppy Program
This book is an eye-opening resource—even for experienced breeders and professional trainers.
It teaches us how puppies communicate long before they understand human language. When we recognize what our puppies are telling us through their body language and behavior, communication becomes clear.
Without that understanding, our puppies simply hear..."Blah, blah, blah."
Learning their language allows us to build trust instead of confusion.
Continuing Your Journey
As your puppy graduates from Kim Moore's Puppy Development Program, we highly recommend continuing your education through Absolute Dogs.
Kim is a professional Absolute Dogs trainer and has worked closely with their methods while developing our exclusive puppy curriculum. In fact, Absolute Dogs was so impressed with portions of Kim's program that they requested permission to incorporate some of her work.
Our Puppy Development Program is available exclusively through Gold Creek Ranch Border Collies.
For less than $200, it provides an incredible value while teaching something many traditional training programs overlook – how to become your puppy's trainer.
Rather than creating a bond with an outside trainer, your puppy learns to look to you for guidance, confidence, and partnership.
When Kim's program concludes, she can also help recommend the most appropriate Absolute Dogs courses based on your puppy's individual strengths and future goals—whether that includes ranch work, agility, obedience, scent work, or simply becoming an exceptional family companion.
Positive, Reward-Based Training
We are committed to positive, reward-based training.
Border Collies are highly sensitive dogs whose greatest stress is often the feeling that they have disappointed the people they love.
For that reason, we do not support punishment-based training methods for our puppies.
We ask our puppy owners to avoid training philosophies that rely on intimidation, fear, or unnecessary corrections.
Our goal is to build confidence—not diminish it.
