Whether you're just beginning your search for a Border Collie puppy or you're already on our waiting list, we hope these answers help you better understand our breeding program and what to expect.

When do you have puppies available?
We typically have multiple litters each year, although Mother Nature ultimately decides the schedule. Our females come into season on their own timetable, so breeding dates can vary.
Many of our litters are fully reserved months before the puppies are born. If you're interested in a future puppy, we encourage you to complete our Puppy Questionnaire as early as possible.
How do I reserve a puppy?
The first step is reading through the pages on our site relating to puppies, including the Puppy Start Here page, the Puppy Policy, Puppy Program, and completing our Puppy Questionnaire.
After reviewing your questionnaire, we'll contact you to learn more about your goals and answer any questions you may have. Once you've been approved, you'll have the opportunity to place a deposit on an upcoming litter.
How are puppies matched with their new families?
We believe matching the right puppy with the right family is one of the most important parts of our job.
Rather than selecting solely by color or markings, we consider each puppy's temperament, confidence, drive, and natural strengths, along with your goals and lifestyle.
Whether you're looking for a ranch partner, Search & Rescue prospect, agility teammate, service dog, or active family companion, we work hard to help you find the puppy best suited for your needs.
Can I choose my puppy based on color?
You are certainly welcome to have color preferences. However, we do not breed for color.

While we occasionally produce red puppies and merles, our focus has always been preserving the qualities that make Border Collies extraordinary.
If coat color is your primary consideration, Gold Creek Ranch Border Collies may not be the right breeding program for you.
Are your puppies registered?
Yes.
All of our puppies are registered with the American Border Collie Association (ABCA).
We do not register with the American Kennel Club (AKC).
The ABCA exists to preserve the Border Collie as a working breed, emphasizing intelligence, instinct, trainability, and working ability rather than appearance.
What health testing do you perform?
The health and longevity of our dogs are extremely important to us.
Our breeding decisions are based on careful research into pedigrees, health history, structure, temperament, and genetic compatibility.

What kind of temperament do Border Collies have?
Border Collies are widely recognized as one of the most intelligent dog breeds in the world.
They are highly trainable, eager to learn, incredibly perceptive, and deeply devoted to their people.

Are Border Collies good family dogs?
Absolutely.
When properly bred, socialized, and raised, Border Collies make extraordinary family companions.
They are affectionate, loyal, and deeply connected to their people.
Like all intelligent breeds, they flourish when included as active members of the family and given opportunities to learn and engage with the world around them.
Are your puppies good prospects for dog sports?

Do your dogs actually work livestock?
Yes.
Working ability is the foundation of our breeding program.
Our dogs have trained and worked livestock, including cattle and sheep, and several have competed successfully in stock dog events.
Our breeding program is built around preserving the instincts, intelligence, and temperament that have defined the Border Collie for generations.
How long do Border Collies live?
Border Collies typically live 12 to 15 years, with many living well beyond that.
Responsible breeding, proper nutrition, regular veterinary care, physical conditioning, and mental enrichment all contribute to a long, healthy life.
What do you feed your dogs?
Proper nutrition plays an important role in lifelong health.

Do you require puppy training?
Yes.
One of the things that makes Gold Creek Ranch Border Collies unique is our commitment to puppy development beyond the day your puppy goes home.
We require participation in our Puppy Development Program because we believe the first few months of a puppy's life have an enormous impact on the dog they will become.
This program teaches owners how to communicate with their puppy through positive, reward-based methods while building confidence, calmness, and a lifelong partnership.

Do you use punishment-based training?
No.
Our philosophy is built entirely around positive, reward-based training.
Border Collies are exceptionally intelligent and emotionally sensitive dogs. We believe confidence, trust, and communication create better lifelong results than punishment or intimidation.
Do you ship puppies?
Yes.
Gold Creek Ranch Border Collies live throughout the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.
We are happy to assist with transportation and work closely with each family to arrange the safest travel possible.
Puppies typically travel between 7½ and 8 weeks of age, depending on transportation arrangements and airline regulations.
Because weather conditions can affect travel, we appreciate flexibility when making shipping plans.
